We arrived back home on Friday 26th Feb, looking forward to sharing our experiences of South Africa with you over the next few weeks. We are very tired but also very grateful to all those people that have made this trip possible both here in the UK and in South Africa. Do read some of our Dear Diary extracts below to get an idea of what we got up to; as well as watch the picture presentation and video extracts.
Dear Diary Day 15
This morning we had to go to Mandela High early to say goodbye to the students and teachers. We had a meeting with the teachers to say thank you and goodbye.
We spent some time with the Mandela students where they signed our shirts. Three of the South African students wanted to say their personal thoughts to us when we were all alone. They told us how much they were going to miss us. Everyone became really emotional, because not only did no-one want to leave but we realised fully then the impact this partnership really has. We all decided that we did not want to end on a sad note so we had one more song and dance before we left. Saying goodbye was more intense than any of us could have imagined. We are all going to miss Mandela High and the amazing people in Mandela, and we all agreed that they have taught us so much that we will never forget them.
Everyone has enjoyed being with the students so much, that it is impossible for any of us to describe how we felt when we were saying goodbye. We just hope that we will all be able to keep in contact with them in the future.
After we had said goodbye, we went to the Waterfront to do some shopping for a short while. None of us are looking forward to tomorrow, especially saying the very final goodbyes to the Mandela learners.
This really has been the adventure and journey of a life time!

A very moving experience; highly creative and remarkably spontaneous

We have been fortunate to have had four other Wexham Teachers join us this last week in South Africa. They have been Mr Johnson, Mrs Michael, Miss Nightingale and Mr Naidu. Click below to find out what they have been doing but do ask them when back at school how they found the experience!
