Good Morning Good People

It is almost 72 hours since the out break of the high altitude volcanic clouds in the greater parts of Europe. It is also more than 60 hrs since the devastating earthquake in China and more than 1600 lives lost.

At the new dawn of our democracy after our first peaceful and successful first democratic elections in 1994.We stood as a Nation on the horizon, with broad smiles and cheers. It was the elections that gave us hope, joy and a sense of belonging, not only to our shores, but also to the world. But also it was an election to bring closure to the injustices of the past and move forward as a People united to face all challenges together.

Little did we know, that those elections would not only unite us as a nation, but would create seamless borders between ourselves and the nations across the globe. Nations and friends we knew before 1994,were nations and countries who in solidarity assisted our beloveth country to conquer apartheid. You fought side by side with us and democracy won. Little did we know too, that the struggle continues, thus forging linkages through whatever means with the same Nations, to prosper our generation and generations to come.

The birth of Hlanganani is enough evidence and proof that the world is a stage. The tenacity displayed by many to make this project a success cannot be ignored and needs applauses and recognition it deserves. As a person looking from the outside, I have observed with great enthusiasm and admiration, friends being made, cries and tears shed at airports when time to depart arrived. To me all these experiences, had a much deeper meaning than one could ever emagine. The growth I have observed in our children since the exchange programme, the confidence built and the further patriotism they display is but one of the positive outcomes of the programme.I am proud to have been associated with the programme, abeit at a very minute level.

It is for these reasons, I felt that what your continent is going through, is my pain ,our pain as well. You are in our thoughts during this time. Yesterday it was recession, today when the world was starting to recover from that, the clouds grounded thousands of flights.

We hope and we pray every minute, asking God’s favour to prevail. As a proud African, we are again at the brink of making history by hosting the Soccer World Cup. We trust in God that His presence, His love,His grace will prove sufficient enough to prevail

I just thought I should share these with you, we love you and we are thinking of you. To those that you know I might have had contact with, yet omitted, feel free to pass on this message.

Love

Nkosinati

An international conference for young people – with a difference!

download pdf for more information

200 young people from across the Thames Valley came along not knowing what to expect…here’s what they came up with…

“What do you think is the point of this international conference for young people?”

To learn more about other countries and socialise with people with different cultures.

To understand and learn more about different cultures and religions.

To help learn about new cultures and help give a new perspective on it. And also a free lunch.

An opportunity for young people to get to know new cultures worldwide be tolerant and inspired for their own creativity.

To make us learn about other ways off living.

Talking, meeting, exchanging, learning, expressing, sharing, laughing, growing, TO BE SURPRISED, to talk about things that matter, to go away with something you didn’t know at the start of the day – with a feeling, an understanding, an action!

To get to know other people and find out about other youth in the community. To find about other cultures.

To learn about cultures worldwide, and see how they’re all linked!

To get acquainted with different traditional cultures and get to know more different people.

To bring young people get together, get each others’ views on things and learn new stuff.

To understand the diversity of our World and to use creativity and our imaginations as a common link between cultures

To learn about different cultures and how they affect people’s lives, and how you shouldn’t always stereotype music for example, as things may take you by surprise. The point is to help other people’s views as well as our own J

For young people from different communities to collaborate.

To learn about the effectiveness of creative practice and how it brings us together as a society.

To break down stereotypes. Also to learn about different cultures.

To see other people’s cultures…and to see if they are different.

To become aware of other cultures and meet new people and socialise with other cultures and to be able to accept the fact that we should get along with other people and be open minded and diverse.

Enhance our knowledge about other cultures; make new friends, to acknowledge global problems J

To break down the stereo type and learn about other countries xxx

To be aware of all the difference cultures in the world

To get different people together from different cultures together and to learn more about other countries

Bring ideas together from different cultures and take them back to our schools. THE BACK TABLE. WE ARE THE COOL ONES. WE ARE WAVING.

Seeing young artists from different countries.

To help young people to find creative approaches to the world they live in.

To bring cultures together. And learn about the different cultures. So people learn about different places. To share different ideas.

To learn about different cultures through creative skills – St Bernard’s School

To make young people more aware of other people’s cultures, and more importantly their country and any problems within that country that we can all help to improve

Fun, meet new people, understand other culture, find out about new countries

Learning about different cultures in different ways

To share ideas from different cultures

Getting young people to think about what it means to be a global citizen

To share and learn from other young people ideas

To share and learn from different cultures so that we can use them in our own lives and at our schools.

Cuz of globalisation we are able to talk to people as quickly as this the point is to understand some of the people we could be talking to.

Enhance our knowledge about other cultures, make new friends, to acknowledge global problems.

To see other peoples cultures to see if they’re different to us.

Coming together, and sharing ideas and experiences

The point is missing p.e. J

Kant ubuy nini khawubuye ngoku mtase. Sewumbonile unchristian. Ihambe kanjani ipresentation

To make us learn about other ways of living.

Learning about different cultures in different ways through music and art makes you feel more relaxed and involved because music relates to everyone and makes you keep an open mind about other cultures.

To get to know people and find out about other youth in the community. To find out about other cultures.

To learn more about other countries and socialise with people from different cultures. A different way of learning & to have fun!

Fun, meet new people, understand other peoples culture and find about new countries.

To make young people more aware of other peoples cultures, and more importantly their country and the problems within that country that we can help to improve.

To learn about different cultures through creative skills.

To bring cultures together and learn about different cultures, so people learn about different places. To share different ideas.

Seeing young artists from different countries.

To be aware of all the different cultures in the world.

….and asked about your thoughts of Interchange 2010 at the end of the day:

What has inspired me today? Today I have met different people who have inspired me. Their personality, their ideas and their actions have inspired me to a level I cannot express. It gives me more of an urge to help people not only locally, but nationally and internationally. Thank you for a wonderful day. Radhika Shourie. Head Girl of The Langley Academy

To break down the stereotype and learn about other countries.

This is a get together exchange. Well done for organising it.

2 build upon and maintain partnerships across the world such as the south African project

You never realise what you take for granted in life till it’s too late.

Today I felt honoured to be involved.

Today has been amazing experience and we have learnt so much and want to do so many things as a result of this conference.

The missing girls in India shocked me.

I want to arrange with my head teacher to do more things and make more connections with our twin school in Impopo South Africa.

I have learnt so much about different cultures and how different people can join in.

The thing that had the most impact on me was the documentary about the lost girls of India.

Had a great experience in the market.

The idea of peace one day is amazing & I think that people who strive for world peace are brilliant.

Thank you for making today such a great day. It’s been a real eye opener seeing all the countries and cultures come together.

Learnt about connecting with others & how to communicate with them. Also learnt how to dance/pulse whatever the drummy/tappy thing was.

Today has made me realise the bigger picture in life and that from that I think that even the littlest things in life can help people from around the world.

I am more aware of other cultures & UI am going to arrange more activities with my school and our twin school in Limpopo. Thank you.

This is a get together exchange. Well done for organising it. Emmanuel

Had a great day. The film at the start had a great impact on us it was great that so many people are interested in this

We learnt how important it is to work together to fight poverty by using creative practice as a global community rather than as individuals

I think the day has been really inspiring and I have many ideas about how I can put everything down in a creative way

Everyone at Aik Saath had a great day. Thank you for inviting us.

Thank you for opening my eyes to the reality of the worked from today I too want to travel & help those less fortunate than myself.

Young people need to be inspired to know that they can make a difference- we are not all pawns – we do have power.

Thank you very much for an amazing day a very big thanks to you and the whole staff it was really amazing and I hope it takes place every year.

Lwazi has inspired me to do something instead of just think about it

The documentary workshop made the ideas seem possible.

I made up a metaphor: everything is sunny as long you are happy in your shelter. It means that no matter how bad life gets you will always be happy in your shelter.

I will continue to wear my badges and bands to do with the South African partnership and raise awareness for HIV. As people will ask questions and hopefully be inspired as I was.

The day has been inspiring, thought provoking experience that has let us see beyond our sheltered lives

The thing I’m going to take away with me is that I should be thankful for what I’ve got

Quite a lot of us would like to go to another country with one of the organised charities to help out voluntarily & get a first hand idea of this experience.

2 build upon and maintain partnerships across the world such as with the south Africa project

Hi people of Hlanganani! You taught me a lot about this partnership: how to have high self-esteem and to stand up for what is good; having friends all over the world; meeting people who make me want something at the end of the day; by the way they act, they are heroes of tomorrow.

All I want to say is, Hlanganani, keep on doing what you are doing; it’s good, because we are true friends. To us it was hard: true friends are hard to find, harder to leave and impossible to forget. That is Hlanganani: friends we have today.

And to those who already came to South Africa, we miss you guys; we won’t forget you because we are brothers and sisters. Keep on doing the good work.
